Hidden away in a cul-de-sac a mile from Guildford, the water mill at Shalford was in use grinding grain from the mid 18th century until 1914. We explore its location and history and describe some of the machinery. At the end of the water mill era it would probably have been lost forever, had it not been for the National Trust and the efforts of a secretive gang of conservation enthusiasts calling themselves Fergusons Gang, whose story is included in the talk.
